Water Movement collaborates with artists, communities, and water operators to share stories through creativity. From powerful installations to award-winning films, our art initiatives raise awareness, inspire action, and honor the vital role of water and those who care for it.

Canada Science and Technology Museum

Water Movement’s work was showcased in the ‘Oh Crap: Rethinking Human Waste’ exhibit at the Canada Science and Technology Museum. A dedicated wall brought to life the portraits and stories of Indigenous water operators, honouring their critical role in safeguarding clean water for communities across Canada.

Award-Winning Documentary

Premiering in the heart of Banff’s sacred mountains, Creator’s Gift tells the story of Indigenous water operators – the stewards safeguarding life’s most precious resource. This powerful film brings their work to light, honouring their vital role in keeping communities thriving.

Art Unveiling at Niagara Falls

Unveiled on National Indigenous Water Operator Day (NIWOD) 2024, Métis artist Mia Cook’s artwork honours the connection between traditional water keepers and modern operators. Inspired by youth murals, the piece debuted against Niagara Falls illuminated blue and was shared as scarves with operators, leaders, and communities across Canada.

#FiftyFuckingOne: Art Installation on Parliament Hill

In the shadow of Parliament Hill, a powerful installation shaped the number 51 using water bottles – a stark reminder of the 51 long-term drinking water advisories in Canada’s Indigenous communities. Unveiled during the 2021 federal election, this striking display called for accountability, sparking conversations about broken promises and the urgent need for action.

Multimedia Art Exhibit at Calgary City Hall

Unveiled during the inauguration of National Indigenous Water Operator Day in 2022, this immersive exhibit celebrated water operators and keepers through powerful portraits, stories, music, videos, and art. Operators from across Canada convened as their dedication to protecting water systems was honoured in a profound and moving display.
